Chefs from the Charlevoix region of Québec, including Jean Soulard (Former Head Chef at the Chateau Frontenac), will whip up dishes inspired by the documentary Empire of Scents as well as the Oscar award-winning movie The Decline of the American Empire.
The five guest chefs will creatively draw from these films to develop a unique tasting menu that will further broaden your cinematic experience.
A panel discussion is scheduled after each film and will enhance your experience tenfold!

Includes the movie presentation, lunch, and Q&A with Rachel Herz, author of Why You Eat What You Eat: The Science Behind Our Relationship With Food, and a local Maine chef

12:30 PM:Movie: The Empire of Scents (TV-14) directed by Kim Nguyen
Central storylines will take us through the world of smell during this feature-length documentary. Filmed in five countries, The Empire of Scents takes us on an artistic journey through the lens of Director Kim Nguyen, Oscar nominee. He integrates beauty, taste and poetry into the film, to the point where we can feel the inner sense of the Empire of Scents.
Lunch boxes will be distributed prior to the start of film, making for an interactive food and film experience!
2:00 PM: Immediately following the documentary, Journalist Allison Van Rassel will lead us in a discussion and Q&A session.

Chefs Jean Soulard (Former Head Chef at the Chateau Frontenac), Emile Tremblay (Les Faux Bergers), Thierry Ferré (Le Mouton Noir), Alexis Jegou (Le Germain Charlevoix) and David Forbes (Ciel!) come together for the gourmet tasting event. Drawing on inspiration from the films shown earlier in the day, the chefs will prepare fifteen delectable creations for you to discover. This gourmet tasting event is the culinary culmination of a day spent exploring all of your senses during this unique food & film festival.

CULINARY TRENDS IN QUÉBEC & MAINE: TAPPING INTO WHAT’S NEXT WITH OUR NEIGHBOR
Chefs, restaurateurs, retail and food & beverage industry professionals are invited to join us for an opportunity to learn more about culinary trends taking shape north of the border. Join Maine and Québec are not only close geographically, but share similar culinary traditions and values.
Jean-Martin Fortier, farmer, educator and award-winning author of the best-seller The Market Gardener will kick off the event with his keynote presentation, followed by discussion. Immediately following Jean-Martin’s presentation, Ben Ford of Verrill Dana will lead representatives from Québec as they discuss together with Maine Grain Alliance’s Tristan Noyes and EW Mailhot Sausage Company
Industry guests will be invited to join us for a cocktail reception following the panel discussion.
